CHAMBER WAVES ARTICLE in Marin Scope, January 2010 by Chris Gallagher, President, Sausalito Chamber of Commerce
Happy New Year & New Decade from Your Chamber of Commerce. I start my year as your President full of hopes… I hope that all of you enjoyed the holidays and that you were able to spend time with friends and family… I hope that many of the gifts and cards that were exchanged in Sausalito were bought locally… and I hope that our local businesses found this holiday season a prosperous one for all.
As with the changing year and calendar – so does the Chamber President. I am proud and honored to be serving you this year and will hope to do as well as Cheryl Popp in 2009. Cheryl will stay on the Chamber Board and will be lending a guiding hand at every step. As we look back at her accomplishments, Cheryl worked hard to make the Chamber a much stronger organization. Many of the ideas Cheryl initiated I will build upon in 2010 – especially the buy local, stay local campaign. It’s an important message that has had a galvanizing effect in our community and I plan to work hard to keep it at the forefront of our efforts in the New Year.
Speaking of buy local, stay local – don’t forget this year’s “Winter Dine about Town” program where local, participating restaurants will create and promote their own unique lunch and dinner “ Red Elephant” specialties each Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from January 1 – March 31st, 2010. I hope you’ll invite your customers to take advantage of this unique opportunity to patronize our award winning restaurants and enjoy exceptional and creative dishes at special promotional prices.
For more information on the program and participating restaurants, contact the Chamber office at 415.331.6272 or www.sausalito.org. And I hope to see all of you at the first Chamber Mixer on Thursday, January 21st at Nautilus of Marin starting @ 5:30p.m.
Some final thoughts on New Year resolutions for 2010…these were forwarded to me in hopes of making my resolutions more successful 1) Set realistic goals, 2) Make a plan, 3) Try not to repeat unfulfilled goals from the past, 4) Make short term goals to reach your long term one and 5) Ask close friends and family to keep you accountable. Together, as a Chamber of Commerce community, I think we can
help each other achieve great things this year. And as your President, I’m going to try my very best to make this a successful year for all of us.
On behalf of the entire Chamber Board, Staff and membership, I want to once again thank Cheryl Popp for her tremendous leadership and hard work this past year. I also want to thank Oonagh Kavanagh our CEO and Yolanda Finstad our Executive Assistant whose talents and hard work have helped us accomplish all that we do. I would also like to acknowledge and thank Jeff Scharosch, Manager of the Spinnaker whose term on the Board ended in December. Jeff was also a Past President and has given enormous amounts of time, energy and talent to the Chamber. He has promised me he is still going to be available to us. Finally, I am honored that Susan Roe, Chair of the Sister City Program and Sausalito Woman’s Club and Lion’s Club member, has joined the Board this year. Susan has endless energy and ideas and it will be a pleasure having her as part of our “A” team.
Let’s keep our resolution to make the Chamber even stronger and more vital in 2010!
Your 2010 President,
Chris Gallagher, Park Manager of the Bay Model
